THERE’S RICE AT HOME

Solo Exhibition, 2026

There’s Rice At Home explores how empire, race and identity continue to shape everyday life. Bringing together archival texts, contemporary imagery and domestic objects such as food packaging, tins and household products, the exhibition uses familiar materials to ask difficult questions about history, inheritance and who gets to tell the story.

Across the works, official records sit alongside Black British vernacular, humour and everyday speech. The tension between them reveals how authority is constructed through repetition and classification, while also imagining how those systems might be disrupted, reinterpreted and rewritten.

At its centre, the exhibition considers history as something unfinished. Rather than existing solely in the past, it continues to surface through the home, through language, and through the ways identity and belonging are shaped in the present.
