THERE’S RICE AT HOME

Solo Exhibition, The Lemon Seed Project, May 2026 

A jar of Marmite labelled "Mandem." An evaporated milk tin that reads "Colonisation Hasn't Evaporated." There's Rice at Home takes the tins and jars of the family kitchen cupboard and sets them against archival texts, asking how empire, race and identity still shape everyday life. Official records sit next to Black British humour and everyday speech, and the gap between them shows who has been allowed to tell the story, and who is telling it now.

Two works sold out during the run:

Mandem
A jar of Marmite labelled "Mandem," set against text from The Unconscious Hatreds of Men: Hatred of the Poor (1911). You either love Marmite or hate it, and the work uses that idea to show how Black boys and men are often judged before they're known. "Mandem" pushes back with familiarity and belonging, and asks who gets denied softness and complexity.

Colonisation Hasn't Evaporated
An evaporated milk tin carrying a simple reminder: colonial systems haven't gone anywhere. Behind it runs text from the United Black Men Catechism, tracing how Christianity became tangled up with colonial power, and how that legacy still shapes belief, language and memory.

Somebody's Been Stealing Our Things

The World Reimagined, London, 2022

A globe designed for The World Reimagined and shown at sites across London. The map of Africa is turned upside down, dislodging Europe from the top of the world. Across the land, a childlike voice borrowed from Goldilocks and the Three Bears repeats "someone's been stealing my gold," "someone's been stealing my diamonds." It's a nursery rhyme about extraction, and a look at how stories of theft get softened in the retelling.

Morley's Chicken Box

Tate Lates, Tate Modern, 2019

A one-night pop-up exhibition curated especially for Tate Lates: a gallery of South London's famous faces, illustrated on Morley's chicken boxes. The show paid tribute to both the local legends and the chicken shop that fed them, with a workshop running alongside it.
